DV2901 (Component B) - Ideas Generation

Ideas Influences

In order to come up with an idea for the project, I first looked up the the meaning of the word the word ''Pantomime''  and got this:

pantomime
  1. 1.

a theatrical entertainment, mainly for children, which involves music, topical jokes, and slapstick comedy and is based on a fairy tale or nursery story, usually produced around Christmas.
    "a pantomime villain"
  2. 2.
a dramatic entertainment, originating in Roman mime, in which performers express meaning through gestures accompanied by music.

After looking at the definition of the word pantomime, I then had to brainstorm the different examples of pantomime. I did this by looking at music videos, musicals, different types of dancing, mime artists etc.

Here are a few examples of the different types of ''pantomimes'' I looked at:

Thought of you - Ryan Woodward (2010)

I thought that this piece was interesting due to the very expressive movements which was shown with the use of leaving constructive lines on the characters, also the movements, are synchronized with the meaning of the lyrics of the background song.

Carlos Martinez - The Rose (Pantomime) (1999)

This piece was interest due to the fact that this does now have any music, or background sounds. This piece was completely driven by the act, and how best the actor can communicate the movements with the audience, without having any props.
Nintendo Wii Dance - Mike Song (2009)

This piece is dance piece which incorporate hand tutting, When I saw this i thought that this was different from what I have looked at so far due to the isolation of the hand movements, and how it is synchronized with the music. I thought that by doing as my main idea would be difficult due to the delicateness of the finger movements and very time consuming,

Keone & Mariel Madrid  - Is This Love" by Bob Marley (2013)

This is another dance production, which incorporates miming and synchronisation with the music, i think that i'm heading toward the route of producing a pantomime of a selection of dance choreography.

Existing pantomime animation

After looking at examples of pantomimes, I then looked at existing pantomime animation that will hopefully, help me come up with ideas for my very own animation.

Here are a few that I have looked at:

LES POPETTES - Maude Émilie-Dallaire - Pantomime | Squeeze Studio Animation (2014)

The Mime - Vancouver Film School (VFS) (2013)

Let Go - Vancouver Film School (VFS) (2014)

Looking at the different examples of existing ''pantomime animation encourage me to produce a piece that has some music synchronisation but some that is just physical acting like the last piece ''Let go'' in which just shows a different walk cycle then to a more active movements.

Posing

I have started experimenting by posing rigged armatures to positions from a dance choreography, Im hoping that this will enable me to get used to the rig that I will be using for the final project, also this will help me understand different types of movements, as I will intricately look at the small details of what leads a movement to another.

Here you can see the four poses that I've gathered from a dance routine that i might do as a pantomime. During this exercise ive learns how to manipulate the rig and got used to the controls.

Below is the main video that I've referenced this poses:

Pantomime Idea

I have produced a video collage of what movement will consist my pantomime, I will be using this video as a reference not I will not copy the video movement from movement, I will change certain movement along the way, such us when the dancer drops the floor as I believe this will be quiet hard to replicate.
